Mediterranean Farmhouse

Charming Swedish mid century painting of a white farmhouse. The grassy land in front of the house slopes down to a river bank with a big clump of frothy reeds. The palette is clear and vibrant with a wonderful array of greens in particular.

Signed Hans Ripa,1912-2001, dated '59. Ripa studied in his native Skäne, and then in Paris and Copenhagen. He travelled widely and painted all over Europe, including the South of France. He also worked as a theatre scenery painter and is widely held in museums throughout Sweden. 

Oil on canvas in a vintage gilt frame with linen insert.
